Welcome to Let's Go Racin' April 2017!
The racers are busy getting ready for a hectic race season. Even if you aren't the wheel person there are many opportunities in racing. This year we hope to feature many people from many different perspectives in the motorsports world. Promotions is a big part of motorsports. We are going to start this month with racers that are enjoying promoting and fanfare before they get too busy attending to critical racing details. Then let's see how the month unfolds. Twin Cities will be offering practice this month and the TQ;s are heading to Bloomington on Friday April 21st. We should be able to bring you plenty of racing insights!

Let the dirt fly!
You know him and you love him, Living Race Legend Willie ( Popcorn ) Sallee! After suffering injures from a horrific race in Bloomington last year he is back at the track. You won't see him behind the wheel anymore. But, he will be in the race pits lending a hand or mentoring to anyone that has sense enough to listen to a man that has more experience wheeling a race rocket than most. After 42 years of racing he has come to realize that no race car is worth his life. Hall of famer Willlie Sallee has no regrets and loves all of his fans but he has hung up his racing gloves for good.

Race fans make all of the hard long hours in the garage and at the track worth it for the racers. If you are a little girl chances are that your favorite driver is Callie Rose Wolsiffer Hewitt #4. Callie and Ron Combs spent their Saturday on April 8th at the Decatur County YMCA for Kid's Day. I was Lucky to bring you this interview due to the over whelming response from the race fans wanting to get an autograph and photos with Callie and Ron. Both cars are owned by Tony Stewart and he is also having a TQ built this year. He will be piloting the #14 at a few select races on the TQ schedule for 2017. For now Callie and Ron will take care of the fanfare until their car owner is able to make an appearance. And, then all eyes are on him, don't worry he will make time to make sure you get your autograph and photos not matter how many fans turn out. He is the most thoughtful famous racer that you could ever imagine. Watch for details on when Tony will attempt to clinch a UMRA King of the TQ Midgets Feature win!

Ron Combs and his Lucky #7 TSR TQ won the first race of the UMRA King of the TQ Midgets season at Brownstown in March. He is a veteran driver with three Championships under his belt. He is quick to say that he is not running for the Championship this year. And, he is mentoring Callie for that grand prize and title at the end of the racing season. Watch this race team this year to go for the gold!
