A bus load of teens on a trip to the Indianapolis 500 in the 1950's was all it took for Mel Harpring to get bit by the racing bug. He turned to Hotrod magazine for guidance on where to begin building his TQ. But, his plans took a turn and he left to serve our Country in the Korean War. He experienced first hand the true meaning of the "Dear John Letter", not only did he give up racing for the war, he lost his long time girl. As soon as he came home from the war he went back to work on his TQ. He is the 1st UMRA TQ Champion, 1961. Listen his interview with Johnny Brown and you will see what an amazing person he truly is. Not only did he stop his work day without notice to help Johnny by giving an interview for his High School US History project, he also gave him a tour of Acro Engineering.

Last season Jason Goff # 96 finished in the second spot for driver points for the UMRA King of the TQ Midgets. Jason Setser 12s is the King of the 2016 race season beating Goff by 4 points. The Championship actually came down to the last race of the season. All in all an awesome season for Goff, he claimed a total of 7 feature races including dirt, pavement and non points features. He also was awarded the 2016 Sportsmanship award. Jason is the son of 15x UMRA Champion Terry Goff. Car Owner is uncle Oogie Goff. He is from Fortville Indiana where the Goff garage secrets are kept!
